Philosophy

Maria Montessori was born in Italy in 1870 and it was soon apparent that she was ahead of her time. She was the first female Italian physician, and it 1907 she developed the Montessori philosophy.

Dr. Maria Montessori established her first children's house, Casa Dei Bambini. Her life's work and dedication to the education of children is recognized worldwide, as shown through three Nobel Peace Prize nominations - in 1949, 1950, and 1951. Dr. Montessori lived until 1952, but to this day, her work and philosophy lives on.

Our program is designed to help children develop socially, physically, and emotionally. Thus, learning to be kind and courteous is as important as learning to read, write or count. Montessori is not just an education, it's an aid to life.

Today, Montessori schools are found all over the world. Dr. Montessori based her educational methods on scientific observation of children's learning processes. She believed in prepared environment in which children could freely choose from many developmentally appropriate activities.

Montessori philosophy is based on the belief in children's creative potential, their drive to learn, and self-paced and internal discipline. Teachers are facilitators in the prepared environment, so learning is encouraged, not forced. As compared to a traditional education, the Montessori Method utilizes individuality and the child's own inherent readiness for progression. Abstract concepts are presented through concrete activities and aid in the mastery of didactic subjects.
